Applies to Launchkey Mk3
When setting up your Launchkey Mk3 with Ableton, you will want to make sure to install the latest Novation USB Driver from the Launchkey Mk3 Downloads page for your device.
Your Launchkey should also be running the latest firmware. The following article explains how to update the firmware for your Launchkey: Updating Launchkey MK3 Firmware
To get started, connect your Launchkey Mk3 to a USB port on your PC, then open the Ableton Live software. Navigate to Options > Preferences... > Link Tempo MIDI The window should look like this:
On Windows computers, you will want to select the 'Launchkey MK3' option as the Control Surface. If using a Launchkey Mini MK3, then this should be set to 'Launchkey Mini Mk3':
Next, configure Ableton's MIDI Input and Output menus to use the DAW script of your Launchkey. The INPUT section should have the 'MIDIIN2 (LKMK3)' option selected in the dropdown menu:
The OUTPUT section should have the 'MIDIOUT2 (LKMK3)' option selected in the dropdown menu:
Finally, you will want to confirm that Ableton's MIDI ports are selected as follows:

When this is configured correctly, you should be able to press the Play button on your Launchkey in order to play the Ableton Live project.
