Applies to Launchpad Mini Mk3, Launchpad X, and Launchpad Pro Mk3
When setting up your Launchpad Mk3 with Ableton Live, you will want to make sure to install the latest Novation USB Driver from the Launchpad Mk3 Downloads page for your product.
Your Launchpad should also be running the latest firmware. This can be confirmed by connecting your Launchpad to the Novation Components software.
Please note that this article will be showing screenshots for a Launchpad Pro Mk3, but this will be the same configuration for a Launchpad X or Launchpad Mini MK3.
First, connect your Launchpad Mk3 to a USB port on your PC, then open the Ableton Live software. Navigate to Options > Preferences... > Link Tempo MIDI The window should look like this:
Under the MIDI section, you will want to select the 'Launchpad Pro MK3' option as the Control Surface. If using a Launchpad X or Mini MK3, then this should be set to 'Launchpad X', or 'Launchpad Mini Mk3' respectively:
Next, configure Ableton's MIDI Input and Output menus to use the DAW script of your Launchpad. The INPUT section should have the 'MIDIIN3 (LPProMK3)' option selected in the dropdown menu:
The OUTPUT section should have the 'MIDIOUT3 (LPProMK3)' option selected in the dropdown menu:
Finally, you will want to confirm that Ableton's MIDI ports are selected as follows:

When this is configured correctly, you should be able to press the one of the Scene Launch buttons on your Launchpad in order to play the Ableton Live project.
