Starting in macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Apple introduced a system preventing driver software from running unless you manually 'allow' the driver in System Preferences.
Once you 'allow' a driver, all other driver software you install from the same developer will be allowed to run automatically.
You may see the above error messages after installing the Novation driver. Clicking OK here will mean the driver doesn't run and your Novation device will likely not work correctly.
To fix this, please follow the steps in the section below, depending on your macOS version.
macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) - macOS 12 (Monterey)
Go to:
Apple > System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Under the General tab, click the Allow button in the lower right corner.
After you click the Allow button, you'll be presented with a list of software/drivers that have been blocked. Tick the box next to anything with 'Novation' or 'Focusrite' in the name. Click OK and select the option to restart the computer.
Newly installed software and drivers will only appear in the list for 30 minutes.
If the driver does not appear when clicking Allow or the Allow button is unavailable, reinstall the driver (there's no need to uninstall it first) and restart the computer. Immediately after your computer has rebooted, go to Apple > System Preferences > Security & Privacy/Privacy & Security, and the option to “Allow” the driver/software to load should reappear.
macOS 13 (Ventura) or later
Go to:
Apple > System Settings > Privacy & Security
Under the Security section, click on Details…
After you click the Allow button, you'll be presented with a list of software/drivers that have been blocked. Tick the box next to anything with 'Novation' or 'Focusrite' in the name. Click OK and select the option to restart the computer.
Newly installed software and drivers will only appear in the list for 30 minutes.
If the driver does not appear when clicking Allow or the Allow button is unavailable, reinstall the driver (there's no need to uninstall it first) and restart the computer. Immediately after your computer has rebooted, go to Apple > System Settings > Privacy & Security, and the option to “Allow” the driver/software to load should reappear.
Further Issues
If you still can't get the Allow button to appear, please try creating a new Administrator account (Add a user or group on Mac) and then follow the steps above. The driver should then be allowed for all user accounts on the computer.
