This applies to the UltraNova

The Ultranova has a software plugin companion which acts as a 'Remote Control' so you don't have to rely on the hardware controls. This has to be opened inside your DAW host (Ableton etc). It is not a 'stand-alone' program like the Librarian and cannot be used on your computer without a host program.

1. Ensure that the UltraNova Editor has been downloaded and installed as a plugin. The plugin can be used as an Audio Unit or VST.  If you do not already have this software, you can find it within your online Novation User Account ('Downloads & Activations'), or from the Downloads page for the UltraNova.
2. Once installed, please ensure that you can see your plugin via the Ableton plugin menu. This will also appear in your VST folder.
   If you do not have the UltraNova Editor appear here, please ensure that you have directed Ableton to read the plugin from its installation directory, as per the image below. If you are using a Windows machine, your VST plugin directory will differ, so ensure you are navigated to the correct directory folder.
3.  Once the directory folder has been scanned, you will need to insert the UltraNova Editor plugin onto a MIDI Track. The UltraNova Editor is not a “soft-synth” and will not produce audio, so this cannot be used on an Audio Track. However, it is a MIDI plugin controller, which enables the control of the UltraNova Hardware's parameters via MIDI.
4. The UltraNova Editor should appear automatically when it has been inserted into a MIDI Track. However, if this is not the case, then manually click the Track Insert “plugin Edit” button which is located on the insert strip.
   The UltraNova Editor window will now open once the “plugin Edit” button is clicked.
5. You are ready to edit and control the Ultranova from this point onwards. You should see the UltraNova appear just like any other plugin, as below. However, if you wish to use the UltraNova Audio interface, please move on to step 6.
6. To use the UltraNova within Ableton as its own audio interface, you will need to ensure that the Ableton Audio Preferences have been set. On Mac, the “Preferences” tab will be located from the “LIVE” option at the top of the taskbar. On Windows computers, the “Preferences” tab will appear under “Options” at the top of the taskbar. 
   On Mac computers, the Driver Type will be listed as the Core Audio driver. On Windows, the Driver Type will be listed as ASIO. Regardless of which operating system you are using, ensure that the Audio Input Device and Audio Output Device are set to “UltraNova (2 In, 4 Out)”.
7. To enable the audio from the UltraNova to be streamed into an Audio Track, you will need to set the inputs of the Audio Track to represent the input channels of the UltraNova. The screenshot below highlights the routing settings which should be adhered to for a stereo signal on a single audio track.
