When setting up your Launchkey Mini Mk3 with Ableton Live, you will want to make sure to install the latest Novation USB Driver from the Launchkey Mini Mk3 Downloads page for your device.
Go to the Preferences (Options > Preferences) and go to the Link/Tempo/MIDI tab:
Ensure to select”Launchkey Mini MK3” for the Control Surface:
and for the Input & Output select the “MIDIIN2”/“MIDIOUT2” port:
Your settings should match those shown here:
Mac
Go to the Preferences (Ableton Live > Preferences/Settings) on macOS and go to the Link/Tempo & MIDI tab:
Ensure to select “Launchkey Mini MK3” for the Control Surface:
and for the Input & Output select Launhkey Mini MK3 (Port 2) port:
Your settings should match those shown here:

Live 10
By default, the Launchkey Mini MK3 should be autodetected by Ableton Live 10.1.1 and later.
If this does not work, or you have changed the settings, these are the settings to revert to:
Ensure to select “Launchkey Mini MK3” for the Control Surface and for the Input & Output select the second port, “Launchkey Mini MK3 (DAW Port)”.
Note that on Windows systems, the second port will appear as “Launchkey Mini MIDI IN2”.
You'll know that the Launchkey is working with Live when you see the Session pad light up when you hold down shift, or when the pads reflect the session mode behaviour, like in the image shown below:
