Applies to: Bass Station Keyboard (original)
The most common cause of this fault in the Bass Station Keyboard is that the MIDI RX (receive) and MIDI TX (transmit) channels have been set to different values. This causes the Keyboard to output no sound. To fix this, do the following:
Turn the Keyboard on. Set the 'UTIL. MODE' switch (below the 'PORTAMENTO' Knob) to the 'KEY'B' position. Press the 'TX KEY' once (the second E on the keyboard), then press the Lowest C key once (labelled 1), then press the 'RX KEY' once (the second F on the keyboard) and then press the Lowest C key once. Now return the 'UTIL. MODE' switch to the 'OFF' position.
Playing the keyboard should now produce sounds. If not, you may not have completed the above steps correctly. Please repeat the procedure.
Other possible causes of this symptom include:
Having the Mod wheelset to control volume, setting the mod wheel to its lowest point (therefore turning the volume to '0') and then setting the mod wheel to control aftertouch or modulation. Now, when you try to play the keyboard, you'll hear no sound (as the volume's set to '0') and if you try to use the mod wheel to turn it back up, it will not work as the mod wheel's now not set to control volume. To resolve this issue, set the Bass Station's 'UTIL. MODE' switch to 'Key'b mode', press the top Ab key to assign mod wheel to volume, move the mod wheel to maximum position (turning the volume back up) and press top G key to assign mod wheel to modulation. Put 'UTIL MODE' switch to the 'Off' position to allow the Bass Station to be played from the keyboard.
The volume of the Bass Station can be changed by other external devices. If a MIDI CC7 message with a value of 0 is sent to the Bass Station, the Bass Station will be muted. If the controller you have connected to the Bass Station has a channel volume control, try turning it up to see if this brings back sound (if the controller only has a master volume control, it may also be worth trying this).
Alternatively, follow the steps at the top of this guide (setting the MIDI RX and MIDI TX channels on the Bass Station to match) so the Bass Station onboard controls will control the keyboard. Once that's complete, the Bass Station's 'UTIL. If you find that setting the Bass Station back up to be controlled by an external device causes the same issue, it's likely that a certain control on the controller is turning the Bass Station volume off.
