How to set up Launch Control XL MK1 and MK2 with Ableton Live

Live 12

Windows

To set the Launch Control XL up with Ableton Live 12 please connect your Launch Control XL to your computer via USB, open Ableton and then follow the setup steps below.

  1. Open Options > Preferences.
  2. Go to the Link / Tempo / MIDI tab.

  1. Set the Control Surface to Launch Control XL.

  1. Set the Input and Output to Launch Control XL, not MIDIIN2 or MIDIOUT2.

  1. Under Input Ports and Output Ports, tick the Remote boxes for Launch_Control_XL Input and Launch_Control_XL Output. Untick Track, Sync, and MPE.
  2. Leave all boxes unticked for MIDIIN2 (Launch Control XL) and MIDIOUT2 (Launch Control XL).

Mac

To set the Launch Control XL up with Ableton Live 12 please connect your Launch Control XL to your computer via USB, open Ableton and then follow the setup steps below.

  1. Open Live > Settings….
  2. Go to the Link / Tempo / MIDI tab.

  1. Set the Control Surface to Launch Control XL.

  1. Set the Input and Output to Launch Control XL, not Launch Control XL (HUI).

  1. Under Input Ports and Output Ports, tick the Remote boxes for Launch_Control_XL Input and Launch_Control_XL Output. Untick Track, Sync, and MPE.
  2. Leave all boxes unticked for Launch Control XL (HUI) and Launch Control XL (HUI).

Live 11
Windows

To set the Launch Control XL up with Ableton Live 11 please connect your Launch Control XL to your computer via USB, open Ableton and then follow the setup steps below.

  1. Open Options > Preferences.
  2. Go to the Link / Tempo / MIDI tab.
