To set the SL MKIII up with Ableton Live 12 please connect your SL MKIII to your computer via USB, power your SL MKIII, open Ableton and then follow the setup steps below.
- Open Options > Preferences.
- Go to the Link / Tempo & MIDI tab.
3. Set the Control Surface to SL MkIII.
4. Set the Input and Output to MIDIIN2 (Novation SL MkIII) and MIDIOUT2 (Novation SL MkIII).
- Under MIDI Ports, tick the Track, Remote and MPE boxes for all SL MkIII In ports.
- Tick Track and Remote for all SL MKIII Out ports except Out: MIDIOUT5 (Novation SL MkIII).
- Leave all boxes unticked for Out: MIDIOUT5 (Novation SL MkIII).
Note that enabling MPE for the input port means that all MIDI channels are in use, so it's not possible to set a track to discretely respond to one MIDI channel. You may wish to disable it if not using Polyphonic Aftertouch data from the pads.
