If you're trying to use a Novation product with Components and don't see it appear on the hub page the first thing to check is that the product is supported. You can review a list of which products are supported in this article Which products use Novation Components?
Using a USB hub
In most cases, using a USB hub with our products is successful, however it does add a third party element and so for the sake of troubleshooting it is recommended you connect as directly to your system as you can. This means avoiding any use of USB hubs or adapters. This might mean using a USB-C to C, C to A, B to A or C to B cable. You can read more about USB cables here.
Web browser
If you're using a web browser to access Components, you will need to ensure you are using a browser that supports Web MIDI such as Chrome, Edge or similar. Once the page has loaded, you'll be prompted to allow access to MIDI devices:
If you're continuing to have problems, try installing the standalone application from this link.
Windows
If you're using a Windows computer, it is recommended you install the Novation USB Driver to ensure your Novation product can be detected by applications at any time. You can find the latest driver for your product here: https://downloads.novationmusic.com/novation
If you're using antivirus or firewall software, you should ensure the driver isn't held back by this by disabling it prior to running the installer.
You can look in Device Manager to check your device is listed correctly. To do so:
Right-click on the Start icon > Device Manager.
Novation devices should appear under 'Sound, video and game controllers':
If your device does not appear in Device Manager, please test another USB cable (no longer than two meters/six feet), and all the USB ports available on the computer, ensuring that the cable is securely connected to both your computer and your Novation product.
If you are still unable to see your device, please Contact Support.
Mac
If you're using a Mac system and Components can't recognise your Novation product, it could be worth creating a new layout in your Mac's MIDI Studio
- Open the Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > System Report >USB and check that the Controller appears here in the USB Device Tree. If it is not here try another USB cable. This could be a hardware issue if it doesn't appear here ever, so contact Tech Support.
- If it IS listed in the USB Device Tree next open Applications > Utilities > AudioMIDISetup > Window > Show MIDI Studio. (On older Mac operating systems it may show the option for Show MIDI Window)
- You should see your Controller listed by name, such as “Launchpad Mini MK3”.
- If you do have a problem with a “USB MIDI Device” note at the top of the MIDI Studio Window, a drop-down box - this likely says “Default”.
- With the controller plugged in, and with the controller's entry selected in MIDI Studio, click on the "Default" drop-down menu and select 'New Configuration'. This will not work if the controller is not plugged in:
- Once you make a New Configuration you should see “SL MkII”, “Launchkey”, or whatever device you have.
If you do not see your Novation product, please test another USB cable (no longer than two meters/six feet), and all the USB ports available on the computer, ensuring that the cable is securely connected to both your computer and your Novation product. If you are still unable to see your device, please Contact Support.
