Applies to: Nio 2|4
When I plug my Nio 2|4 into my computer, the red light on the front won't come on, and I can configure the outputs/inputs in my system
Please ensure you have downloaded the latest Novation USB Drivers from the support page here:
The Novation logo keeps flashing on my Nio 2|4
This is normal. The Novation logo on the Nio will start flashing when midi messages are received at the midi ports.
I am experiencing significant distortion on the Inputs of my Nio without any effects loaded.
With early versions of the Nio 2|4 firmware, it is possible that when launching Nio FX Rack after restarting your computer, distortion is heard on the Nio's inputs.
If you are experiencing this issue, download the latest drivers from here:
There is no audio coming from input 2
Input 2 will either be the Jack on the front or the red Phono on the back of the unit.
The Jack is used for Instrument (e.g. guitar or bass) or mic-level inputs.
The Phono is used for Line-level inputs (e.g. synthesiser or mixer output).
Ensure that the input 2 switch is in the correct position for your chosen input source.
For stereo Line inputs, ensure that both input 1 and input 2 switches are in the Line position.
The output of the Nio 2|4 is noisy
The NIO should ideally be used with the USB cable that came in the box with the unit. If you have lost this cable, then please make sure that you use a good-quality cable as a replacement.
There are different standards of power conductor wire within the USB cable. These will be denoted by a number followed by 'AWG', or 'AWG/2C' and will be written along the length of the cable. The cable that comes with the NIO shows '24AWG/2C'. You will need to make sure that your cable shows this value or Lower.
If the value denoted on your cable shows a higher number (thus higher resistance) then you may hear a 'hum' or 'whine' noise, and when the computer processor is working hard you may hear processor noise in the NIO outputs. You should therefore replace the cable with one with the above specification.
I want to set up the Nio 2|4 to DJ with, how do I set this up?
Please look at page 28 of the User Guide, which can be downloaded here:
Outputs 3|4 are metering, but no sound is coming from the Nio
Make sure you close nioFXRack software on your computer. The Nio will use signal b (outputted on 3/4) as the “processed” input if the nioFXRack is opened.
