With the 1.3 (and onwards) Circuit Firmware update, you can now select a different sample for each step in all four of the drum tracks to create multidimensional drum patterns. You can also automate sample changes to create variety in your drum patterns.
The Drum Selection page can now be used to audition/play samples in real-time. This would function similar to a drum rack in Ableton Live. Pressing a button will play the sample for its full length until another sample is pressed. The new sample will then play, stopping the previous sample.
You can record what you play live in the Drum Selection page into your pattern for the drum to create loops. This allows you to play multiple samples in a singular drum pattern.
You can also perform per-step automation similar to how you would with the Circuit Synths. Simply enter notes on the steps you would like to play, then enter the velocity mode. While in the velocity mode press the record button without pressing play. You can then press the pads for the individual steps where you would like to change the sample and select the new sample in the Editor.
This allows you to program multiple samples in one pattern without having to perform and record the pattern.
