Novation Components is a software tool used to manage a range of Novation hardware, including the FLkey 2. In Components, you can update the firmware, create custom modes and configure the device.
You can access Components either through the standalone application or the web app in browsers that support Web MIDI, such as Chrome, Opera and Edge.
Firmware Update
If a firmware update is availble for your FLkey 2, you will be prompted to update when opening Components as shown below.
Clicking Update will open a dialogue box with steps walking you through the process.
Custom Modes
After clicking the 'Manage FLkey 2 button, you are presented with 3 options.
Get Custom Mode from FLkey 2 - You can upload an existing custom mode from the FLkey to edit or share with others.
Create Custom Mode - You can create new custom modes.
Upload CustomMode - You can upload a custom mode to Componets from your computer
FLkey 2 features 1 encoder and 2 pad custom modes. FLkey 2 49 and 61 features an additional fader and buttons custom mode.
Encoders
There are 16 customisable controls, split over 2 pages in the encoder custom mode. Encoders can be set to send MIDI CC, NRPN messages or disabled. The range, resolution, and MIDI channel for this control can be set per encoder.
Pads
There are 2 custom pad modes available for use on FLkey 2. In a custom pad mode, the 16 pads can be configured to send a range of messages. These include MIDI CC, NRPN, Program change messages and keystrokes. The pads can also be disabled.
MIDI CC and NRPN messages work in the same way as the encoder custom mode. Program change messages can be configured to either send absolute values, for example, patch recall during a live performance or as an increment or decrement for browsing through patches on a hardware device. Keystrokes mimic the behaviour of a computer keyboard and can be programmed to trigger keyboard shortcuts from the pads.
Faders and Buttons
The fader and buttons custom mode is only present on FLkey 2 49 and 61. The faders can be set to send MIDI CC, NRPN messages or disabled. The range, resolution, and MIDI channel for this control can be set per fader.
The 9 buttons can be configured to send a range of messages. These include MIDI CC, NRPN, Program change messages and keystrokes. The pads can also be disabled.

Once the custom mode is created, you can either send the custom mode to the FLkey, save a copy within Components or download a copy to your computer.
Premade Modes
Existing custom modes can be seen on the left-hand side of Components. There are premade custom modes from Novation and user custom modes which you have created and saved. These modes can either be sent directly to the FLkey or edited to better suit your needs.
Pedal
The FLkey 2 features a 1/4" input for a sustain pedal. The pedal page lets you customise what MIDI message the pedal sends. This can be any MIDI CC or NRPN at either 7 or 14 bits of resolution. By default, this is CC64.
Mod Wheel/Strip
By default, the Mod Wheel/Strip of your FLkey 2 will send a MIDI CC1 message. Within Components, you can customise this to send any CC or NRPN message.
To use the Mod Wheel/Strip in FL Studio, please see the following article.
User Menu
The user menu can be accessed from the top right corner of Components. From this menu, you are able to update and view release notes for the FLkey 2, calibrate the pitch and mod wheels and reset the device to factory settings
