Applies to:
- Launch Control XL 3
- Launch Control 3
with Logic Pro 11 or above on macOS.
The following applies to Logic Pro on macOS only, not iOS devices. While there is no DAW script for iOS, Launch Control can still be used as a generic MIDI controller: Connect external devices with Logic Pro for iPad – Apple Support.
Update needed
Before proceeding, make sure your Launch Control's firmware is up-to-date using Novation Components.

Automatic Logic Pro Setup
Launch Control XL 3 and Launch Control 3 use the macOS Core MIDI driver, so you do not need to download or install a driver to use them with a Mac. To set up Launch Control XL 3 or Launch Control 3 in Logic Pro, first you need to download the Logic Pro script installer from the link below:
Launch Control XL 3 Logic Script Integration Version 1.0
Quit Logic Pro, then run the script installer.
Once the installer is finished, connect your Launch Control to your Mac over USB, ensure the firmware is up-to-date (Updating Launch Control XL 3 Firmware / Updating Launch Control 3 Firmware), and open Logic Pro.
If you are prompted to automatically assign the controls, click Auto Assign.
If you do not click Auto Assign, or if the prompt does not appear, it can be enabled in Logic's Control Surfaces settings by enabling Auto for your device (below shown for a Launch Control XL 3).
Logic Pro → Control Surfaces → Settings…
If you've completed the setup correctly, the screen on your Launch Control should read “Logic Pro”, and the buttons and encoders should light up in DAW Mixer mode.
Additionally, when you press Mode to enter mode selection on Launch Control XL 3, Solo / Arm (DAW Control) and Mute / Select (DAW Mixer) should light up, indicating that the DAW modes are available. They will be lit dimly if another mode is selected, or brightly if a DAW mode is selected.
On Launch Control 3, Function should light up, indicating that the DAW modes are available.
If you don't see any of the above after completing the automatic setup steps, you may need to set up Launch Control manually. Follow the Manual Logic Pro Setup steps below.
Manual Logic Pro Setup
Before proceeding with manual setup, ensure you have tried the Automatic Logic Pro Setup steps above first. The steps below show a Launch Control XL 3, but the same steps applies for Launch Control 3 – this will appear in Logic as 'LC3'.
To set up Launch Control XL 3 or Launch Control 3 manually in Logic, you'll need to install a new control surface:
Logic Pro → Control Surfaces → Setup… → New → Install
Under Manufacturer, find Focusrite - Novation, and select the Model of your product.
- Launch Control XL 3 = LCXL3 1
- Launch Control 3 = LC3 1
Note that there are eight entries in case you are using multiple Launch Controls with different Device IDs (see Change Device ID on Launch Control products).
Set the Output Port and Input Port entries to the MIDI ports.
For Launch Control XL 3 these are:
- Output Port: LCXL3 1 MIDI In
- Input Port: LCXL3 1 MIDI Out
For Launch Control 3 these are:
- Output Port: LC3 1 MIDI In
- Input Port: LC3 1 MIDI Out
Your Launch Control should now be functioning as described above in Automatic Logic Pro Setup. However, if you are having any issues after completing the steps above, try selecting Rebuild Defaults and repeating the manual setup steps.
Logic Pro → Control Surfaces → Rebuild Defaults

Once you've configured Launch Control 3 as described above, Launch Control 3 will default to DAW Mixer mode when you open Logic Pro. Press the Function button to switch between the four Button Modes: Solo, Arm, Mute, and Select (the default mode).
In DAW Mixer mode, you can use the Page Up and Down buttons to switch between controlling Pan and Sends with the top row of encoders.
If you want to switch between DAW Mixer and DAW Control modes, press Mode, then press the Function button. Press Mode again to exit mode selection.
