Components supports most Novation products released after 2016, for more information see this article: Which products use Novation Components?
How to update firmware using Novation Components
Supported products can be updated using Components by connecting them to the computer and opening either the standalone version of Components or the web version in a supported web MIDI browser (Chrome and similar, Edge, Opera) When you first connect a product, you'll be prompted to update the firmware as needed:
If you don't see a prompt to update here, you have the latest firmware.
Once you click “Update Firmware” you'll be directed on any further steps you need to take (note that most products require manual confirmation through a button press on the hardware before beginning the process)
If the update times out, you'll be prompted to try again:
When the update succeeds, you'll be shown what has changed:
You can also go to a specific product's Updates page to update and read the release notes of all firmware versions. This is located in the menu at the top right of the product page:
Update failed
If the firmware update for your Novation device via Components fails, there are a number of troubleshooting steps we recommend trying.
- The first step is to disconnect your device and reconnect it to a different USB port as this can solve a number of problems.
- You may have more success updating your firmware using the standalone version of Components: https://components-updates.novationmusic.com/download
- If you use a Windows computer, please install the Novation USB driver. This is available on our downloads page: https://downloads.novationmusic.com/novation
If you continue to have problems, you may have more success attempting the update in Bootloader Mode, which will bypass the need to press any additional buttons to complete the update. To access Bootloader Mode, you will need to shut your device down and then hold down a button combination while powering/connecting the USB cable. The instructions for each of the relevant Novation products are found below:
