On Windows, our class-compliant MIDI devices will work without installing a driver. The only limitation is that it can only work with one MIDI program at a time, which will always be the first program that starts using your Novation device.
If you use more than one MIDI application at the same time (e.g. Components and your DAW) without the Novation USB driver installed, you'll see an error along the lines of “No access to MIDI ports” or “Not enough memory”.

You may also notice that content transfers - such as Custom Modes, Packs, Patches, and firmware - are more likely to succeed with the driver installed.
