Circuit is powered either by batteries or the included power adapter.

A quick press of the power button shows the battery level. A longer press of around two seconds will turn Circuit on.

When the Circuit is powered by batteries, a battery level indicator will show, if powered by power supply it will show a Power sign indicator.
