Applies to: all Launchkeys
If you're using a Launchkey Mini [MK3] ensure the firmware is updated with Components.
The Launchkey is a MIDI controller, primarily designed around controlling a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for instrument control and clip launching.
MIDI data is control data that tells the software what to do and can be used to control sound, but it does not contain sound itself.
To get sound from your Launchkey make sure your audio software (e.g. Ableton Live) is set to use your desired audio output (i.e. sound card or laptop built-in speakers) in the Preferences > Audio settings.
Then, ensure your Launchkey is set following the settings advised in its user guide - this is found on the downloads page for your Launchkey:

You can load audio clips to lanes of Ableton Live or select an instrument to control. This can all be done on the left-hand side of Ableton Live's interface:
Alternatively, you can start playing with piano sounds and/or learning piano without having to install Ableton Live by following our guide here: Learning Piano with Launchkey
